Weekend Mods

Any idiot can do these mods in less than a day (2 if you spend time on your paint job) Total cost ran around $100, including the beer!

Step 1- Install some GOOD spark plugs. The Autolite 3223 plugs work beautiful, and you're not blowing an insane amount of money on platnum plugs (which could hamper performance). Cost- $6.80

Step 2- Install an 180 degree thermostat. An 180 degree thermostat will allow your engine to run cooler, and will help performance. Cost- $9.99

BEER BREAK

Step 3- Remove rubber flap between radiator and passenger side fender. This will allow more air to come in the engine compartment. Cost- FREE

Step 4- Install a home-brew K&N intake system. I got the plans off of GibbsDakota.com and felt the install went easier than I thought. The hardest part was removing the stock air box. This intake just allows more air into your engine, giving you a richer air / fuel mix. Cost- $50.00

Step 5- Painted Grill Covers- I bought a set of Lund ScreenFront grill covers from Ziebart of Ottawa, and simply spray painted them red before installing. Cost- $30.00

Step 6- Put on an overwhelmingly offensive bumper sticker. This in no way improves performance, but sure adds a
"what the f**k?" element to the truck. Cost- $3.00

Overall, I felt the following mods were worth the money. I saw a big gain on my fuel usage and a little kick when I got on the gas. When I get some more money, I'm going to attack the exhaust system. After that, I don't think I can do any more!
